Pact for the lives of children with cancer

In South America, Bolivia country with a population of 9 million people, of whom 60% are young and 35% of them children. It detects that grows day by day the number of children with cancer pathology.

With this understanding of wills, will form the association "which children live" on April 16, 2001, a non-profit association with the mission to provide support in the comprehensive treatment of children with cancer or leukemia in order to preserve life of small sick with the disease. This multidisciplinary association of voluntary members get their legal persons on October 21, 2001 with the desire to arrive at different levels of support economically, socially and politically to solve the problems of abandonment and neglect in which they find themselves sick and family.

The support of economic support was very low, due to different circumstances of Bolivian society. The association becomes a body of spiritual support, psychological and often economic solidarity of parents and relatives. The volunteers usually parents undergoing or had completed treatment made transmission of knowledge on care and feeding of children, so sensitive that even conducting home visits to provide their expertise and support.

The year 2008, dated January 29, became the relaunch of the partnership with greater goals, wishing achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness in the prevention and cure of childhood cancer, due to a high increase in cases that were appearing in special zones industrial and marginal where poverty is accompanied by extreme malnutrition.

Lack of knowledge of the public about the symptoms that presents a child with cancer in the first phase, determine the need for a body able to be the reference in relation to the detection, treatment and cure of cancer in children in Bolivia.
The Seminar Workshop Agreements last April 26, where more than 15 volunteers met with the objective of outlining the mission, objectives, plans, projects, processes Implementation, Monitoring and feedback of a renewed partnership to address most number of cases Cancer in children with the slogan that "Cancer in children is curable"

Nowadays, few children eligible for placement in the room Onco haematological Hospital of the Child, must wait for a bed that there are only 14 of which are 2 and 1 in sterile environments for outpatients, thereby reduced to 11 beds in a single environment of 4.50 meters x 12.00 meters. Many patients are sent to emergency rooms burned, respiratory or gastroenterology where conditions are not appropriate medical infertility or simply the patient is rejected until the release of a bed.

For this reason, the association determined the need to enter their plans and projects covered an adequate infrastructure to generating isolated rooms and bedrooms, where they can exercise control more akin to the need and living conditions of children with cancer.
There is a commitment of volunteers working on projects in the following areas:

1. Achieving recognition to the public and private sectors so that the child receives cancer treatment politically, economically and socially
   2. Spreading the massive transfer of knowledge and awareness of childhood cancer
   3. Strengthen the partnership, its structure and improve its legal basis
   4. To ensure every child affected by cancer and their families is access to exercise their basic human rights
   5. Strengthening hospitals with high-tech
   6. Establish a fund of funds
   7. To strengthen the services of primary health care
   8. Generate mechanisms to ensure effective and appropriate treatment with medicines and first-line drugs
   9. Motivate, train specialists onco pediatric hematological
   10. Proposing and establishing legislative and administrative processes to facilitate access to specialized treatment to children with cancer.
   11. Generate a system of administration, monitoring and control through interaction of more than 12 databases related to cancer.

Each of these areas will have one or more programs or projects implementation rates of verification and feedback in certain periods.
A short term are required to comply with achievable items such as:

• technical courses for doctors, nurses and first aid level for relatives
• cytostatics and drugs for cancer treatments complete with duration of more than three years.
• Implementos clothes sterile medical and paramedical staff, relatives and others.
• An area with equipment for immuno depressed patients in chemotherapy.

Members of the association "living children" are willing to work in achieving the goals, but found a single obstacle, on the economic means.
